What is Physical Literacy and Functional movement?

Physical literacy involves more than just the ability to perform specific sports skills; it encompasses a wide range of movements and an understanding of how to use the body effectively. Foundational movements include skills, such as running, jumping, throwing, pushing, pulling as well as catching and are the building blocks of all physical activity. These skills provide the basis for more complex movements and are essential for success in any sport.

Why should I enrol my daughter in this program?

Builds a strong foundation: Learning foundational movements and physical literacy skills makes children more adaptable and capable in various physical activities. Just as a strong foundation is critical for a sturdy building, foundational movement skills are crucial for athletic development.

Improves balance and Coordination:  Balance and coordination are critical for performing sport-specific skills. For example, a child who can balance well and coordinate their movements will find it easier to learn and excel in sports that require precise control and timing, such as gymnastics, soccer, basketball and hockey.

Prevents injuries:  When children learn the correct techniques for basic movements, they are less likely to develop bad habits that can lead to injury when they transition to more complex sports-specific skills.

Develops long term athletic skills: Children who have a solid movement foundation are more likely to become well-rounded athletes. This approach also helps identify their strengths and preferences, guiding them towards sports where they are most likely to excel and enjoy.

Develops versatility and adaptability: Children who develop foundational movement skills are more versatile and adaptable. They can transfer these skills across different sports and physical activities, making it easier for them to pick up new sports and enjoy a wider range of physical experiences
